•Abstract
K0.5Na0.5NbO3 has been widely used as a representative of lead-free ferroelectric perovskite materials. We investigated the luminescence and photochromic properties of Eu3+-doped KNN (KNN:Eu). X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement analyses revealed mixed- orthorhombic and tetragonal lattice structures of KNN:Eu. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity was maximum at x = 0.05, in good accord with KNN:Eu structural properties. We also noted variations in PL intensity due to KNN:Eu photochromic properties. The diffuse reflectance in the visible light range and the PL intensity decreased by 17.6% and 68%, respectively, after ultraviolet irradiation. Heating restored these changes up to 99%.
